Experience Tactical Roguelike Action in Pokémon Overlord
Pokémon Overlord is a strategic, roguelike reimagining of the classic monster-battling formula. Developed by jab_lao, this project strips away traditional exploration in favor of fast-paced, high-stakes team combat and deep squad management designed for players who love tactical depth.
Tactical Row-Based Combat
The core gameplay revolves around a unique 3v3 row system that demands careful positioning and foresight. Unlike traditional turn-based battles, where you manage one Pokémon at a time, you oversee a full squad simultaneously.
- Front Row vs. Back Row: Your team is split into two lines. Pokémon in the front row act as your primary shield, while those in the back row are protected from most direct physical strikes.
- The Speed Trade-off: Safety comes at a price. Pokémon positioned in the back row suffer a 30% speed penalty, making the choice between durability and turn priority a constant balancing act.
- Streamlined Move Sets: Each Pokémon is limited to two attack slots and one passive ability slot. This creates a focused tactical environment where you must curate the perfect kit to counter specific opponents.
Roguelike Progression & Rarity
Every run is a fresh challenge where team building is dictated by a Rarity System and smart resource allocation. No two playthroughs are the same.
- Dynamic Rarity Tiers: Pokémon are categorized from Common to Ultra Rare. While legendary "Super Rare" Pokémon start with massive base power, the game ensures every species is viable through clever scaling.
- The "Steroid" Mechanic: Lower-rarity Pokémon receive significantly higher gains from stat-boosting items. With enough investment, a Common-tier Pokémon can be trained to rival the power of a Legendary.
- Strategic Evolution: Timing is everything. Stat boosts applied to a Pokémon before it evolves carry over, allowing for advanced optimization for players who plan their team's growth carefully.
Diverse Game Modes
Whether you are following the story or testing your endurance, there is a mode for every type of trainer:
- Tournament Mode: Face off against iconic characters in a hotel-based tournament where rival teams grow stronger alongside you.
- League Challenge: Step into the shoes of famous trainers and attempt to clear the tournament using only their specific signature teams.
- Battle Frontier: A pure test of skill featuring a 30-battle gauntlet. You must build and adapt your team on the fly with no room for error.
- Versus Mode: Take the strategy offline with local multiplayer to see whose tactical layout reigns supreme.
